We are pleased to announce that the Academic Policy Committee has approved the MSc in Family Medicine Global Health Concentration which will be launched in Fall 2022. The MSc in Family Medicine; Global Health Concentration is a thesis option graduate program designed to provide research training in the areas of global primary health care delivery and policy, as well as 鈥済lobal in local鈥� primary care that recognizes the diverse needs of multi-cultural, vulnerable and underserved populations in Canada.
This course leverages the Department鈥檚 extensive global health research expertise and partnerships in practice-based, people-centered, and community-engaged research with disadvantaged populations internationally, and in Canada. Rooted in the principles of social justice, cultural safety and health equity, the concentration provides a strong grounding in decolonizing approaches to research that embrace the authentic participation of people and stakeholders in defining priority concerns, interpreting evidence, and developing locally relevant solutions.
The concentration is structured around a 24-credit thesis requirement which must be focused on a subject related to global health either locally or internationally. This is complemented by 9 credits of required courses, including a proposed Global Health and Primary Care Foundation course, 7 or 9 credits of complementary courses and 3 or 5 credits of elective courses related to global health.
