Performance Choral Conducting (Grad. Cert.)

Program Description

The Graduate Certificate (Gr. Cert.) in Performance Choral Conducting offered by the Schulich School of Music is a course-based program that emphasizes hands-on and stimulating learning opportunities. Our comprehensive and innovative program offers a specialized and practical curriculum designed to equip students with advanced skills in conducting.

Unique Program Features

  • The program is designed for choral conductors wishing to perfect their technical, pedagogical, and musical skills. This flexible program allows conductors to develop their craft while maintaining their professional activities;
  • Learning activities include group tutorial instruction; concentrated podium time, interactions with world-class conductors, score study, and the development of rehearsal technique;
  • Students benefit from access to the Marvin Duchow Performance Library resources and opportunities to observe rehearsal techniques of major Montreal ensembles (e.g., the Montreal Symphony Orchestra);
  • The School houses several performance spaces, research & production laboratories, and two libraries with a vast collection of music resources. It is also home to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), an inter-institutional research centre containing six dedicated research labs and work spaces.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
