Electrical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering)

Overview

Electrical Engineers are experts in developing, testing and solving problems within electrical systems. º£ÍâÖ±²¥bվ’s Major in Electrical Engineering offers a broad understanding of key principles in rapidly advancing fields like computer technology, micro-electronics, automation and robotics, telecommunications, and power systems.

Our Electrical Engineering program is broad, offering a solid knowledge base and the freedom to tailor your education to your interests.

This program will equip you with the technical skills to work on projects of all scales – from industrial electrical systems to nanoelectric structures. You will code, develop and troubleshoot software, and will learn how the architecture of modern computers puts bounds on calculation accuracy, speed and energy consumption.

Careers

Electrical engineers work in many industries, including telecommunications, aerospace technologies, automotive industry, robotics, automation and control systems, microelectronics, energy, biomedicine or manufacturing and processing.

You can also share your knowledge of electronic systems with people in the Canadian north or developing countries around the world.

You can become a professional:

  • Hardware engineer
  • Business analyst
  • Applications engineer
  • Electronics specialist
  • Global technical support associate

Student experience

The Institute of Electrical Power Engineering (IEPE) offers a competitive program for aspiring Power Engineers. You can access state-of-the-art lab facilities and special scholarships while making important industry connections, and even working on industry-sponsored projects.

Undergraduate student groups in Engineering are active throughout the year. We have our own chapter of Engineers Without Borders, and a group dedicated to uplifting women in engineering (Promoting Opportunities for Women in Engineering (POWE)).

Possible minors

Minors are a great way to customize your academic experience. Many students use minors to pursue interests outside their major, while others choose minors to complement their degree.
