About Music Programs in Arts

About Music Programs in Arts

Available within the Faculty of Arts are a major and a minor concentration in Music. Arts students may also apply to the other music minors (Composition; Music Education; Music History; Music Theory; Musical Applications of Technology; and Musical Science and Technology) as long as they have the necessary music prerequisites. Visit the Music Program website for more information.

Admission to the B.A. program is granted according to criteria established by the Faculty of Arts.

Students in the B.A. Freshman Program who are considering a Music concentration should see the Freshman Adviser in Arts OASIS in Dawson Hall. They should also see the B.A. Music Adviser in order to ensure that they include any necessary prerequisite Music courses (based on the results of placement examinations) in their first-year selection. For more information, see www.mcgill.ca/music/programs/ba.

Students interested in a more intensive music program, including practical instruction on an instrument or in voice and additional ensemble participation, should consider the B.Mus. degree or the diplomas offered by the Schulich School of Music; see Schulich School of Music > Undergraduate > Overview of Programs > Degrees and Diplomas Offered.
