As core to the Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) program, the experiential module has º£ÍâÖ±²¥bÕ¾ MMR students racking up tons of amazing, unique retail experiences.

MMR students gain perspectives from prominent global business leaders in the retail industry, and learn real-life examples to build on theoretical knowledge taught in the classroom.

School Year Retail Project

Students undertake a consulting role by working in teams with real companies to solve a real-life, data-driven retail issue.

  • Produce a robust strategic and analytic solution over a semester
  • Practice using real data and market-leading software
  • Benefit from industry mentorship and faculty coaching
  • Gain unparalleled training for the job market

Retail Innovation Challenge

The Global Retail Challenge is an entrepreneurial competition that tackles the pressing issues impacting retail, sustainability, the circular economy and the grand challenges facing our societies.

Each participating team (comprised of 4-5 students and a relevant faculty advisor) will be charged with finding solutions to accelerate young consumers’ participation in scalable circular economies for retail and consumer products.

This 10-week virtual challenge culminates at º£ÍâÖ±²¥bÕ¾ for finals weekend. It includes a Montreal city experience, coaching and mentoring to further develop the teams’ pitches, semi-finals and final presentations and an awards ceremony and dinner.

Internship Program

A 3-4 month retail internship is also a required component. These positions can be related to marketing, strategy, operations, data science, supply chain, and more. A dedicated career services officer will help student to discover internship opportunities and prepare them for interviews. To ensure a real and effective training internship, the MMR program staff pays particular attention to the student internship orientation process in an effort to maximize the experience for each student.

Retail Innovation Lab

Through interaction with the Bensadoun School of Retail Management's state-of the-art Retail Innovation Lab, students will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about managing all levels of a retail operation using the latest technologies. The practical experience will link directly to the study of consumer behaviour, experiential marketing, omni channel retailing, pricing analytics, efficacy of different payment systems, and global value chain management.

Annual Retail Summit

The aim of this conference is to provide a forum for both professionals and academics, from the leading firms and universities of the world, to foster discussions about the latest research, industry practices and approaches, as well as trends and challenges related to retail.

To facilitate the cross-pollination of ideas, the event is highly interdisciplinary and will feature speakers/participants with a wide range of expertise (e.g., supply chain management, marketing, technology, computer science, sustainability). While the conference aims to highlight topics centered on operations, branding and pricing, new technologies, big data, AI/machine learning, and social responsibility.

This is a great opportunity for our students to network with experts and leaders in the retail field.

Study Trip (Optional)

The annual study trip (1-week long) provides a window into how today’s retail sector operates in a booming metropolis. Leveraging º£ÍâÖ±²¥bվ’s extensive alumni network, students meet with leaders in major retail organizations that operate across areas such as food, fashion/beauty, financial services/fintech, intelligent mobility and hospitality.
